The Embassy of the Republic of Liberia in London extends its deepest sympathy and solidarity to the family, friends, colleagues, and the wider Liberian community following the passing of Dr. Danielette Adelaide Nelson, a pioneering Liberian physician, humanitarian, and devoted daughter of Liberia.
Dr. Nelson, who passed away on 29 June 2026, was a trailblazer who made history as the first female Liberian surgeon in the United Kingdom, breaking barriers and inspiring generations of Liberian women and girls to pursue excellence in medicine and beyond.
For more than five decades, she dedicated her life to medicine, humanitarian service, and the advancement of healthcare. Despite building her professional life in the United Kingdom, she remained deeply connected to Liberia, supporting the country’s health sector and contributing to humanitarian efforts, including during the Ebola and COVID-19 crises.
Through her professionalism, compassion, courage, and commitment to Liberia, Dr. Nelson left a lasting legacy that extends far beyond medicine. She demonstrated that service to one’s country knows no borders.
The Embassy stands in solidarity with her family and all those mourning her loss. We are grateful for the life she lived, the lives she touched, and the example she leaves for generations to come.
