Brief Statement by Her Excellency Genevieve A. Kennedy Ambassador of the Republic of Liberia

 

Good afternoon Fellow Liberians, Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am pleased to be here this afternoon to join with you all in applauding the fantastic achievement of an accomplished Liberian. For indeed, Dr. Precious Toe is remarkable; being a young woman of high standard who inspires the aspiration for excellence.

I have had the personal delight of getting to know Dr. Toe since my return to the UK. Having had the pleasure of meeting her initially at last year’s 26 Day celebrations in Manchester, and subsequent occasions of talking and interacting with her, I have maintained the conviction that she is a person of fortitude, an intellectually gifted individual who consistently elevates the performance and standards of everyone within her orbit.

I am therefore not surprised that she has written a book that include some of her profoundly bitter and challenging experience – periods in her life that could have easily bred resentment – and have channelled them into a life-affirming piece of literature. It takes immense courage to face a bitter and unfair chapter of one’s life. But we are assured and can rest completely inthe armsof grace which comes fromthe firm foundation of the Lord. It is only with the Lord that a person can look at that such pain and ask: How can I use this to serve someone else?

That is exactly what, I believe Dr. Toe has achieved in “Scars Do Not Limit Function”

I look forward to reading “Scars Do Not Limit Function” because having talked with Dr. Toe, Iimagine that she has drawnon some difficult moments of her life to show (I would suggest, that with the Lord) we can rise from the depth of the abbess to build a better future. I also imagine this book is not just a story of survival and sadness; but is certainly a few chapters of a life of resilience that projects the gift of hope anchored in the grace of the Lord.

I therefore am glad that we have come out this afternoon to celebrate the launch of “Scars Do Not Limit Function”. And to say “well done” for a magnificent new piece of literature, while we celebrate the brilliant mind of its author – Dr. Precious Toe, a Disciple of the Lord and a strong community leader.

So, on behalf of the Officers and staff of the Embassy; and in my own name, I would like to thank Dr. Toe and the organizers who assisted her for this invitation. Allow me to convey our best wishes for a memorable event and the successful launch of “Scars Do Not Limit Function”.
