A historic celebration unfolded on 26 July as Liberia marked its 179th Independence Day, with Liberians across the world coming together to honour the nation’s rich history, culture and enduring spirit. In Sheffield, England, members of the Liberian UK diaspora gathered in a vibrant display of unity and national pride, celebrating their heritage while reflecting on Liberia’s journey since independence. The occasion was further highlighted by an address from the Ambassador of Liberia to the United Kingdom, who spoke on the significance of Liberia’s independence, the contribution of the diaspora, and the importance of preserving the nation’s identity and unity for future generations. The occasion brought together families, friends and community members in a spirit of togetherness, showcasing Liberian culture, music and traditions and reaffirming the strong bonds that continue to connect Liberians at home and abroad.
