One Nation. One People.
Ambassador Genevieve A. Kennedy recently joined fellow representatives of African Union member states in a meeting with the Dean (Doyen) of the African Diplomatic Corps in the United Kingdom, Christian Katsande. The engagement underscored the importance of unity, coordination, and collective representation among African nations within the UK’s diplomatic community.
Convened in London, the meeting brought together ambassadors and high commissioners from across the continent, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration among African missions. In his role as Dean, Ambassador Katsande continues to provide leadership in fostering dialogue, aligning common positions, and promoting cohesion within the African diplomatic corps.
Ambassador Kennedy’s participation highlighted Liberia’s active engagement in pan-African diplomacy. Discussions focused on key priorities including economic cooperation, investment opportunities, and enhancing Africa’s collective voice in global affairs, particularly in its engagement with the United Kingdom.
A significant part of the meeting was dedicated to preparations for Africa Day, an important occasion commemorating the founding of the Organization of African Unity (now the African Union). Ambassadors discussed coordination of delegations, programming, and collaborative events to mark the day in the UK, ensuring a unified and impactful celebration that reflects the diversity and dynamism of the African continent.
The conversation also explored opportunities to leverage Africa Day as a platform to showcase African culture, promote trade and investment, and strengthen engagement with partners in the UK. Coordinated participation by diplomatic missions is expected to reinforce shared messaging around development, innovation, and continental integration.
The meeting with the Dean served not only as a forum for strategic dialogue but also as a demonstration of solidarity among African states. By working collectively, members of the diplomatic corps are better positioned to advance shared interests and contribute meaningfully to international discourse.
Ambassador Kennedy’s engagement reflects Liberia’s continued commitment to multilateral cooperation and African unity. As preparations for Africa Day progress, the collaborative spirit demonstrated at this meeting sets a strong foundation for a successful and meaningful celebration.
The gathering concluded with a renewed sense of purpose, reaffirming the importance of coordinated diplomatic efforts in promoting Africa’s voice, vision, and partnerships on the global stage.
