Liberian Ambassador Engages with UK Foreign Secretary to Bolster Bilateral Relations

In a significant step toward strengthening diplomatic ties between the Republic of Liberia and the United Kingdom, Her Excellency Genevieve A. Kennedy, newly appointed Ambassador of Liberia to the Court of St James’s, met with The Rt Hon David Lammy, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in London.

The meeting provided a valuable platform for constructive dialogue on shared interests, regional cooperation, and opportunities for expanded engagement between the two countries.

Ambassador Kennedy conveyed the greetings of His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., and expressed Liberia’s appreciation for the UK’s longstanding support, particularly in the areas of governance, education, and peacebuilding. She also briefed the Foreign Secretary on Liberia’s renewed development priorities and the government’s commitment to institutional reform, economic recovery, and international cooperation.

For his part, Secretary Lammy welcomed Her Excellency and underscored the United Kingdom’s interest in deepening its engagement with Liberia and West Africa more broadly. He highlighted the importance of maintaining strong diplomatic dialogue and affirmed the UK’s readiness to support inclusive growth, democratic governance, and sustainable development efforts across the region.

The discussion concluded with a shared commitment to reinforcing bilateral cooperation through continued diplomatic engagement, technical collaboration, and multilateral coordination.
