One Nation. One People.
July 7, 2025 – The Embassy of the Republic of Liberia at the Court of St. James, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland wishes to inform that June 30, 2025, marked the inaugural attendance of H.E. Ambassador Genevieve A. Kennedy, to the meeting of the Heads of Mission of the Member States of the African Union to the Government of His Majesty King Charles III, following the presentation of her Letters of Credence to the Monarch on May 21, 2025.
It was decided by the Heads of Embassies and High Commissions of members states of the African Union at the Court of Saint James, also known as the African Group or the Group, there shall be the regular gathering of Heads of Mission of the Member States of the African Union to be accorded the opportunity to discuss essential matters of the African Continent including the strengthening of diplomatic relations, cooperation and engagements with the United Kingdom on matters of shared challenges and interests. This platform has proven beneficial over the years as it has provided the Group a collective channel through which collaboration for the common good, economic development, including peace and democracy, the rule of law and the protection of human rights, etc have been achieved.
In view of the foregoing, the Ambassador was embraced with very cordial pleasantries by her distinguished colleagues from the different Diplomatic Missions and warmly welcomed by the Chair and Doyan of the African Diplomatic Corps, H.E. Retd. Colonel Christian Katsande, Ambassador of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
In response to the cordial sentiments, Ambassador Kennedy expressed her appreciation for the warm reception and earnest pleasantries accorded her since her arrival at post and specifically at the meeting. She assured the Group of her preparedness to work with them noting the incredible strides they have made over the years. Therefore, in compliance with the Meeting’s Agenda Item “Country Report” The Ambassador reminded the body of Liberia’s smooth democratic transition from one administration to another which has and continues to prove to the world its serious commitment to the rule of law, peace and democracy. This she opined was emblematic of the inherent characteristic of Liberia which historically adhered to the principles of good governance and peace and security.
Ambassador Kennedy therefore noted that it was this confidence reposed in Liberia that encouraged members of the United Nations including Members States of this august body to extend their unflinching support and ensured the election of Liberia to the non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. In this connection Ambassador Kennedy conveyed thanks and appreciation for this overwhelming support of the African Union whose Ambassadors and High Commissioners were resilient in the African Group at the court of Saint James; with the assurance that Liberia will continue to work for the maintenance of peace and security on our continent to ensure our overall economic growth and development.
In conclusion, Ambassador Kennedy again lauded her esteemed colleagues for their warm sentiments and kind words of welcome extended and assured the Group that in the performance of her duties as Liberia’s Envoy at the Court St. James, she shall also endeavour to work with them in every available circumstance to promote the ideals and objectives of the African Union.
The Embassy would like to report that it was indeed a remarkable experience and rewarding meeting centred around the collective agenda of the AU Member States in the United Kingdom.
