Welcome Reception for New Liberian Ambassador Highlights Strategic Maritime Ties

London, United Kingdom — The Embassy of the Republic of Liberia in the United Kingdom hosted a formal in-house reception to welcome Her Excellency Ambassador Genevieve A. Kennedy, newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Court of St. James’s.

The event, held at the Embassy in Fitzroy Square – London, brought together diplomatic staff and senior representatives of the Liberian IMO (International Maritime Organisation. The gathering served not only to introduce the Ambassador to the team but also to reaffirm the vital collaboration between Liberia’s foreign service and its globally respected maritime institutions.

In her address, Her Excellency thanked the Embassy team and maritime officials for their warm reception and conveyed her strong commitment to promoting Liberia’s interests in the United Kingdom and across multilateral platforms.

“The UK remains an indispensable partner to Liberia, particularly in the areas of maritime governance, international diplomacy, and trade. As I take up this post, I look forward to building on our shared achievements and expanding Liberia’s presence and influence in key sectors,” she stated.

Ambassador Kennedy emphasized that Liberia’s diplomatic outreach is closely aligned with national priorities—chief among them, the growth and regulation of Liberia’s maritime sector. With the International Maritime Organization (IMO) headquartered in London, she noted the strategic importance of effective coordination between the Embassy and maritime agencies to ensure robust representation and continued leadership within the global maritime community.

Officials from the maritime delegation expressed their confidence in the Ambassador’s leadership and pledged their continued cooperation. They also reaffirmed the sector’s commitment to upholding Liberia’s reputation as a top-tier ship registry, known for safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

The ceremony concluded with expressions of goodwill and a shared commitment to deepening Liberia–UK relations. Her Excellency is expected to present her Letters of Credence to His Majesty The King in the coming weeks, formally commencing her diplomatic mission.
