One Nation. One People.
London, United Kingdom — 30 May 2026
The Republic of Liberia proudly participated in the 2026 Africa Day celebration of the African Union Heads of Mission Group in London, joining fellow African nations in a vibrant celebration of Africa’s rich cultural heritage, diversity, unity and growing economic potential.
Held at the Novotel London West in Hammersmith, the gathering brought together more than 300 guests, including members of the African diplomatic community, representatives of the United Kingdom and friends and partners of Africa. The event was chaired by H.E. Retired Colonel Christian Katsande, Ambassador of Zimbabwe to the United Kingdom, who serves as the longest-serving African Ambassador in London.
The 2026 celebration provided an important platform for African diplomatic missions to present the distinctive cultural identity, products and opportunities of their respective nations. Under the broader 2026 African Union agenda, the continent is focusing on “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”
Liberia’s participation provided visitors with an opportunity to experience a selection of Liberian food products, culinary ingredients and confectionery, demonstrating the breadth of products associated with Liberian cuisine and the growing availability of Liberian products through international markets.
The Liberian display featured an assortment of food seasonings, cooking blends, ready-made food preparation sachets, sweets and other culinary products, providing guests with an introduction to some of the flavours and food traditions associated with Liberia.
The exhibition also demonstrated how Liberian food products can serve as an avenue for cultural diplomacy while creating awareness of opportunities for trade, entrepreneurship and international market access.
For visitors unfamiliar with Liberia, the display offered more than a selection of food products. It provided a tangible introduction to Liberian identity and the country’s culinary traditions, while highlighting the potential for Liberian brands and products to reach consumers beyond the country’s borders.
One of the highlights of Liberia’s participation was a vibrant cultural dance presentation, with Liberian performers appearing in beautifully coordinated traditional attire.
The performance brought the colour, movement and energy of Liberian culture into the centre of the Africa Day celebrations and offered guests an opportunity to experience an aspect of Liberia’s rich cultural heritage through music, dance and dress.
The Liberian cultural presentation formed part of the wider programme of national cultural showcases, with African diplomatic missions using dance, fashion and other forms of cultural expression to celebrate the diversity of the continent.
The importance of such presentations was also reflected in the participation of other African missions. The Embassy of Burundi in London reported that traditional Burundian dance and fashion formed part of its contribution to the Africa Day celebration, illustrating the event’s emphasis on culture as a means of bringing African nations and communities together.
Africa Day in London provided a unique meeting point between diplomacy, culture, business and community.
Other national missions used their exhibition spaces to highlight tourism, agricultural products, food, fashion, handicrafts and other areas of national interest. Uganda, for example, showcased tourism attractions, agricultural products and traditional Karamojong attire at the London celebration.
For Liberia, the opportunity to participate in the exhibition created a platform not only to celebrate the country’s cultural heritage but also to draw attention to the potential of Liberian products and entrepreneurs in the international marketplace.
The presence of Liberian food products alongside the cultural presentation demonstrated the many dimensions through which Liberia can engage internationally — from cuisine and cultural heritage to enterprise, trade and diaspora engagement.
Africa Day is observed annually on 25 May, commemorating the founding of the Organisation of African Unity, the predecessor of today’s African Union. The London celebration extended that spirit of continental solidarity through a gathering of African diplomatic missions, partners and members of the wider community.
Liberia holds a distinctive place in Africa’s modern history. As Africa’s oldest independent republic, Liberia’s story is closely connected with the continent’s history of independence, self-determination and international engagement.
Its participation in Africa Day 2026 in London therefore provided an opportunity to celebrate both Liberia’s unique national identity and its place within the wider African family.
The event further demonstrated the important role that African diplomatic missions in the United Kingdom play in promoting cultural understanding, strengthening relationships and creating platforms through which African countries can present their products, traditions and opportunities to international audiences.
The Liberian presence at Africa Day 2026 was ultimately a celebration of Liberian pride, creativity and cultural heritage.
From the exhibition table featuring Liberian culinary products and sweets to the colourful cultural dance presentation, Liberia made its presence known among the African nations represented at the London gathering.
The occasion provided a valuable opportunity to “Taste Liberia, Experience Liberia and Discover Liberia” — while reminding audiences that Liberia’s contribution to Africa’s story extends from its history and culture to its people, products, creativity and international connections.
As African nations continue to strengthen cultural and economic ties with the United Kingdom, occasions such as Africa Day provide an important platform for Liberia to showcase its identity, support its entrepreneurs and deepen engagement with the African diplomatic community and the wider British public.
Liberia was proud to stand among its African brothers and sisters in London — celebrating Africa’s diversity, strengthening solidarity and sharing the richness of the Liberian experience with the world.
